The Marranzano ( Marranzanu or Scacciapensieri ) in wrought iron is a traditional Sicilian musical instrument . It is an idiophone musical instrument. This means that the sound is produced by the vibration of the body of the instrument itself, without the use of strings or stretched membranes and without a column of air being made to vibrate.
To play the Marranzano , place the end with the free reed on the incisors, without squeezing too much, and pinch the lamella with a finger. In the meantime, change the size of the oral cavity, to adjust the pitch of the sounds, which also follows the different positioning of the tongue. It should become one with the body of the musician.
